Movie Nerdiness

So, last year I decided that I should keep track of all of the movies that I watch. It is kind of nice to be able to look back on what I've seen and when I've seen it, so I'm devoting this post to some nerdy statistics and stuff. Yes, it is February, which means last year ended a month and a half ago, but I am a ridiculously busy person...and better late than never? The awesome pie chart shows my movie watching by month. I watched 89 movies total (not counting documentaries for homework), so I need to work on increasing that this year. In June, I watched the most movies, with 14 total watched. September was when I watched to fewest, with only 1 watched. My average was approximately seven movies a month...this is like watching a movie about every four days.

I am absolutely terrible at ranking things and choosing favorites, but here is a list of some of my favorite movies out of the ones that I watched last year. They are in alphabetical order because I won't try to rank them. I think all of these movies are pretty awesome. If you haven't seen any of them, you should check them out some time. My taste is rather eclectic, so liking a couple of them does not mean you will like the rest....
 - The Amazing Spider-Man
 - The Artist
 - The Avengers
 - Dark Shadows
 - Fright Night
 - Hotel Transylvania
 - In Time
 - Mirror Mirror
 - A Star for Christmas
 - Total Recall

Looking forward to 2013, I suppose I should keep my movie goals low since I have five classes this semester, so I think that aiming for watching 100 movies seems reasonable. I am adding another list of ten movies, this time ones that I want to watch for sure this year. If you know me and want to watch any of these...movie night?
 - Argo
 - L'arnacoeur
 - Epic
 - The Great Gatsby
 - The Hobbit
 - The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
 - The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
 - Les Misérables
 - Star Trek Into Darkness
 - Thor: The Dark World

Hope & Tim Glenn

If you don't know who these two are, you are missing out big time. Hope and Tim are absolutely beautiful people and I feel so blessed to know them and the lovely folks who play in the band. They are trying to make an album out of their wonderful songs and they could use a little help. As if the above was not a good enough reason to pitch in as much as you can, there are some amazing incentives, so check out their kickstarter project page and please give what you can. If you don't want to take my slightly biased word for how awesome they are, check out these videos.

Year Five...the end is in sight

The semester is already well under way and I am still not entirely sure where the break went. The quantity of books I read, the extensive cleaning, and chaos of the holidays may have something to do with it. I'm taking five classes this semester, which is indeed zany, but it puts me finishing in the summer (with only ONE class). I'll be graduating with a major in Theatre Studies, a major in Religious Studies, a minor in Classical Civilizations, and an honors certificate. That seems like a lengthy way to sum up the last five years of my life....
I am taking Sociology of Religion, Religious Studies, Philosophy of Religion, Prophets on the Edge, and Roman Art & Architecture. Ironically enough, the classes that I would have said I was most looking forward to ended up being the least enjoyable and those that I was not as excited about have ended up being my favorites. Philosophy drives me crazy sometimes because it involves so many arbitrary, unsubstantiated assumptions, but it is one of my favorite classes. That probably has something to do with the fact that the teacher is one of the teachers that I respect most out of all of the teachers that I have had in my twelve semesters at the University of Utah. My Prophets on the Edge class is turning out to be absolutely wonderful as well. There are only eight of us (counting me), which makes the class more comfortable because we can get to know each other better and have more meaningful discussions. It is also sooo lovely to have literature homework.
As is to be expected with five classes, a job, church, etc., I am already drowning in homework. My printed master schedule of homework is usually about four pages, but this time, it is five pages with a smaller font. Most of it is going pretty well though. Although I did have a lovely moment turning in a four page paper today. The format was unusual, so we had been given an example of the format and I followed it explicitly, so I had four pages single spaced and everyone else turned in double spaced papers...oops!
It seems a little strange to make such a decision so close to the end of the school year, but I have decided that I really need to stop prioritizing school so highly. It is good to put effort into it, but in the end, the people in my life matter a lot more than getting perfect grades in school. I realized that there is only ONE person that I consistently text just to talk as opposed to because I have to for some reason. I have also been missing a lot of things lately. It's hard to build and work on relationships with people in your life if you never have time for them...and they will be around a lot longer than school will. Also, I feel like it becomes a bit of an excuse to hide behind to avoid the risk of working on relationships.
So, I have a couple of goals for myself...it's easier to keep 'em if you put them in writing, right?
     - Prioritize people over school
     - Start taking better care of myself
     - Actually write on my blog
Wish me luck! We already know I am terrible at that last one....
